Book: Tissue, Please! (By: Lisa Kopelke)

Content Objective: The students will be able to understand the idea of a good relationship among friends and the habit of good manners.

Language Objective: students will learn to re-tell the story using sequence words: first, next, then, after that, finally.

Learning Strategy Objective: Teacher will ask the students about their childhood recreation games and ask students to create a word web to list some of them that they use to play together.

Activate Background Knowledge: the teacher will show the students some pictures related to the different kinds of childhood games and ask them if they have already played any of them.

Introduce New Vocabulary: hopscotch, jump rope, ride a bike, runny, snuffled, wipe, disgusted, tissue, pocket, crowd, pirouetted. The teacher should show the students flashcards related to the vocabulary, creating a good way for students to memorize by listening and repeating in a loud/slow/ voice, etc. Teacher can draw the games on the board too.

Picture Walk: The teacher should go through the pages of the book observing what is in the pictures, and asking and answering to students questions as the story unfolds… "Oh look, what’s this"? (showing the front page); what color is the frog? (say the color); Does he seems happy? (Yes, he does); "Why do you think he is happy"?, look at his eyes; what are the friends doing? (they are eating peanuts together because they do all things together, they are good friends); and the teacher continues thinking aloud. After showing all the pages of the book (asking and answering), the teacher reads the book for the students. TISSUE, PLEASE!
